Advantages of Stem Cell Therapy for Neck Pain

The main benefit of stem cell therapy to treat neck pain is using your own bodies stem cells to treat and heal areas of your body affected by pain.

Stem cell therapy is a less complicated and risk-averse alternative to traditional orthopedic or spinal surgery.

Our stem cell treatments require little to no anesthesia, quick recovery time, do not require any major surgery so there’s no major scarring or complications.

The main benefit of stem cell treatment for neck pain is the effectiveness for creating long-lasting pain relief .  Our patients have seen a dramatic reduction in neck pain and an increase in quality of life because of stem cell therapy.

Who is Stem Cell Therapy for?

If you suffer or have suffered from chronic neck pain from injury, overuse of the neck muscles, or any other reason, and you do not want to undergo major surgery, stem cell therapy may be the right option for you.

If you’ve already tried other forms of relief for your neck pain such as physical therapy, the use of a neck brace, steroid injections, and even surgery, and are still suffering from neck pain, stem cell neck injections can be the relief that you need.

What to Expect from Stem Cell Therapy for Neck Pain?

Your stem cell therapy examination and procedure will take place at our offices in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Fortunately, with this procedure, there will be no hospitalization or any major surgery needed and can be performed within the same day.  Since your neck is composed of many vertebrae and ligaments, we must first do an analysis to understand a precise method moving forward and whether if stem cell therapy is the right treatment option.

During your initial consultation with Dr. Alturi, he will review your medical history and do a physical examination in our clinic before using high-tech imagery techniques to identify damage that may be causing pain around the neck area.  A thorough analysis is done by an MRI machine to help pinpoint causes of pain and discomfort within the neck area.  From there, Dr. Alturi will recommend the next steps and if stem cell therapy will resolve the issue.

If stem cell therapy is the right treatment for you, the first step is to prepare your own stem cells and placet-rich plasma (PRP) for the operation.  You will schedule a time for your operation (generally one to two weeks out from your initial consultation).

Stem cells are the building blocks of our bodies, and they begin creating different types of tissue at conception.  We use your bodies stem cells found in your bone marrow, also referred to as Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC’s).  These cells are the most versatile type of adult stem cell. They can be found throughout your entire body and have been known to help with healing in many different organs.  By using our advanced and research-backed stem cell therapy process, we are able to target the iliac bone marrow for robust stem cell reservoirs. This includes concentrating your own platelet concentrate from red blood cells in order give you the best possible results.

During your stem cell procedure, Dr. Alturi will use oral or IV sedation and local anesthetic to ensure that you have a comfortable experience.  Once the local anesthetic is working, we take a sample of your bone marrow stem cells to our lab.  Once there, we remove the stem cells from the bone marrow.  After a couple of hours, the stem cells are ready to be injected back into your joints to relieve pain and discomfort.  Using more local anesthetics as well as ultrasound guidance, Dr. Alturi precisely injects your bodies stem cells into the affected pain areas according to your treatment plan.  These exact neck stem cell injections take between 30-45 minutes.  Stem cells and platelet rich plasma are the lifeblood of your body, supercharging its regenerative healing process.

When can I Expect Pain Relief from Stem Cell Injections?

After the procedure, you will not feel any notice in pain-relief or discomfort.  However, you will start to feel pain-relief within the next two to three weeks.  The full effect of neck stem cell injections are not felt until three to six months after the procedure when the stem cells have had adequate time to heal and restore your bodies vertebrae and ligaments.  From this point moving forward, patients have felt years and years of pain-relief from stem cell injections.  Most of our client’s never have another stem cell treatment due to the first procedure being so effective and long-lasting.

Stem Cell Therapy for Neck Pain Case Studies

Case Study #1

Mike has been suffering from neck pain for more than 30 years. His pain started when he was injured at work. He has seen multiple physicians and tried multiple treatments like physical therapy, medications, steroid injections, and also had his arthritis nerves burned. Unfortunately, none of them gave him long term relief. His neck pain was severe enough that it was affecting his lifestyle.

MRI test of his neck showed that he had arthritis in his discs and facet joints. He also had spinal stenosis which was pinching his nerves. All these changes resulted in his severe neck pain.

Mike finally chose to have stem cell therapy for neck pain. The procedure was done about 4 months ago. We used his bone marrow stem cells. Contrary to popular belief, bone marrow extraction is not painful, in the right hands. Why did we choose bone marrow stem cells?

Mike was initially sedated and then the area was numbed with local anesthetics. This made the procedure relatively painless. Using X-Ray guidance, a needle was placed into the back portion of the hip girdle bone. Two ounces of bone marrow was extracted and then placed into a centrifuge machine. This machine generates about 1/2 a tablespoon of bone marrow concentrate which had a ton of stem cells. These stem cells were then injected into his discs and facet joints as these are the usual suspects causing pain. X-Ray guidance was used to accurately place the stem cells into the painful structures.

Mike’s 30-year neck pain was relieved with stem cell therapy. Imagine that. 30 years of pain gone. Unlike other treatments, this relief is sustained. Yes, it is anecdotal. Yet powerful. Because his only other option was a neck fusion. So how does Stem Cell Therapy for neck pain, provide pain relief?

  • Stem cells secrete powerful anti-inflammatory proteins which decrease inflammation and thereby decrease pain
  • Stem cells cause tissue regeneration. This seems to be mostly at a microscopic level rather than macroscopic.
  • Stem cells cause “Immunomodulation”. This means that the stem cells protect the injected joint from being attacked by the body’s defense mechanisms.

Currently, there are no studies regarding stem cells and neck disc/facet joints. However preliminary clinical data does reveal that stem cells work well to relieve pain when injected into the lower back discs and facet joints.

Case Study #2

Sandy was suffering from neck pain for many years. Like Mike, she has seen multiple doctors and received multiple treatments without success. She finally decided to get stem cell therapy for neck pain. We injected bone marrow stem cells into her neck discs and facet joints. After the stem cell therapy for neck pain, her symptoms were significantly better.

See the video below to see how Sandy has responded to stem cell therapy for neck pain. She had the treatment more than a year ago and is still doing great.

How to get the best results?

Two parameters define what a “best result” means. One, the percent of pain relief should be 70% or higher. Two, this relief should last for years. To get the best result the following criteria must be met……

  • Stem Cell Therapy for neck pain must be performed by an expert in regenerative medicine. Ask if the doctor is certified by either ASIPP or IOF. Avoid clinics where the procedure is performed by a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant or a poorly trained doctor.
  • Make sure that the clinic is using FDA-compliant Bone Marrow Stem Cells. I have explained above why bone marrow stem cells are the currently the standard of care.
  • Unless the right structures are injected, you will not get pain relief. Discs and facet joints are the main culprits causing neck pain. Make sure the clinic has the expertise to inject these structures.
